This week’s RIAC - Motorsport Ireland classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is season highlights from the 1991 Irish Formula Opel Lotus Championship. These highlights cover 4 of the 10 rounds of the 1991 Irish Formula Opel Lotus Championship featuring action from the Phoenix Park and Mondello Park. With strictly controlled components and tyres, and with other versions of the series running in other countries, Formula Opel Lotus was an extremely popular single seater class in the early 90s. Experienced drivers like Sam Thompson, Noel Roddy and Vivian Daly were pitched against up and coming talents like Paul Monahan and Morgan Dempsey Jnr. Daly looked to be the class of the field but as the season wore on, Morgan Dempsey Jnr hit a sweet run of form, culminating in a last lap shootout between the pair for the title. This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on October 28th. Next week’s upload will feature forestry rally action from 2001 in the form of the 2001 Toshiba Rally.
