This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 2002 Manx International Rally. Three British Rally Championship titles probably belied the motorsport talent that was Mark Higgins. The Manx native never got the big break of a full time seat with a works team in the World Championship but on his home event, he was untouchable. Trying to place himself in the shop window of the factory teams, Higgins hired a Toyota Corolla WRC for his home event in 2002. Andrew Nesbitt, who was in the form of his life, could only manage second place to Higgins who finished almost 5 minutes ahead after a devastating performance. This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1992 Manx International Rally. Already well on his way to becoming a household name, Colin McRae was in a class of his own in 1992 winning every round of that year’s British Rally Championship. In a head to head encounter with the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship regulars on the Isle of Man, McRae was happy to alter his pace as needed and despite driving well within himself, brought his Subaru Legacy to a 6 minute win over the similar car of second place Bertie Fisher with Kenny McKinstry in third place in another Legacy. This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on June 23rd. Remember to subscribe to the Motorsport Ireland–RIAC YouTube Channel to be notified of our latest video uploads.

This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1992 Donegal International Rally. After a tough start to his 1992 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship campaign, Bertie Fisher was looking to turn his fortunes around on the Donegal International Rally. Not his luckiest event, Fisher was initially outpaced by fellow Subaru Legacy driver Kenny McKinstry on the opening day but on Saturday Fisher began to show his class and pulled clear with a devastating performance. McKinstry picked up punctures and penalties as he tried in vain to stay with the Ballinamallard driver who went on to claim his second win on the event.
