This week’s RIAC - Motorsport Ireland classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from a pair of 1996 Formula Ford races.
This upload features a pair of races from the 1996 Ford of Ireland Formula Ford 1600 Championship. The first race, a shortened 12 lap affair due to heavy rainfall, saw George McAlpin take the chequered flag but not before Chris Paul had thrown away his chances after slipping off the track while leading. The second race, held in near perfect conditions, was aired live on RTÉ with commentary from Gareth O’Callaghan and John Kenny. Mark McKenna looked a certainty to win but suspension failure in the closing laps handed the race to Jeff Wright.
This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on October 14th.
Next week’s upload will feature more action from 1996, this time in the form of Rallycross
