The Royal Irish Automobile Club Archive is Ireland’s only motoring and motorsport archive and is housed in the Club’s premises at Dawson Street, Dublin. It comprises of the Guinness Segrave Library together with an ever-growing collection of material related to all facets of motoring in Ireland. The Archive facilities are available to bone-fide researchers by appointment with the curator.
Among the resources of the Archive are runs of The Motor News, The Irish Cyclist, The Automobile, Motor Sport and Autosport magazines, extensive material on the 1903 Irish Gordon Bennett race and the Irish International Grand Prix that the Club organised between the years 1929 and 1931.
The development of the Irish Motor Industry is well represented in the Archive and there is an extensive collection of photographs recording all aspects of motoring history in Ireland.
A ‘Friend’s of the Archive’ group exists to support the important work of the Archive, and new members are welcomed. Talks are organised for this group in the Spring and Autumn as well as trips to places and events of motoring interest and an annual lunch. Members of this group also enjoy several special privileges with regard to the use of the Clubhouse.
