This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is their tribute show which aired following the tragic deaths of Bertie, Mark and Emma Fisher.
For over three decades the name Bertie Fisher was synonymous with Irish rallying. A four time Irish tarmac champion, Fisher accumulated a record 20 international victories during his time behind the wheel. Later in his career he stepped back from the sport to support his son Mark, who had just secured a works drive with Peugeot. Tragically, on the 21st of January 2001 while returning from a family celebration in Ashford Castle, a helicopter crash claimed the lives of Bertie, Mark and Emma Fisher. This tribute programme features interviews with long time friends and competitors including Sydney Meeke, Rory Kennedy, David Richards, Billy Coleman, Austin McHale, Kieran McAnallen and Niall McShea among others.
This programme will be available to watch exclusively on our Youtube channel below from 7pm on Thursday, January 21st:
Next week’s upload will feature Formula Ford action from 2001, a season which saw rallying grind to a halt with foot and mouth disease while circuit racing flourished.
