This week’s RIAC - Motorsport Ireland classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1997 Ulster Rally. With the 1997 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship already decided, the focus on the Ulster Rally was firmly on the F2 runners in the British Rally Championship. Heading to the Ulster, Mark Higgins was very much the outsider in the title race. Having never won a round of the British Championship, he wasn’t event in the top 5 on the points table heading to the penultimate round in his Nissan Sunny, a car which was much less developed than its counterparts, especially from Ford and Renault. Higgins drove a superb rally taking a comfortable win and hauling himself into title contention. This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on August 11th.
