Watch the 1997 Lurgan Park Rally from 7pm, Thursday August 4th

This week’s RIAC - Motorsport Ireland  classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1997 Lurgan Park Rally.
Having come within 4 seconds of the win of the 1996 event, Patrick Snijers returned in 1997 to try and claim the Lurgan Park Rally title. But it was fellow Escort WRC driver Gwyndaf Evans with guest navigator John McIlroy who made the early running, opening up a 9 second advantage after 5 stages. A spin for Gwyndaf allowed Snijers to draw level though and the pair headed into the final stage on equal time. Snijers and Evans set identical times on the final stage but Evans won on countback by virtue of having the most fastest times throughout the day.
