This week’s RIAC - Motorsport Ireland classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1997 Irish Super Prix. The 1997 Irish Super Prix entry list was headed by the 1996 winner Johan Rajamaki but he faced stiff competition from a strong grid of Boss Series regulars in their ex-Formula One, Formula 3,000 and other Libre cars. Nigel Greensall in his Tyrell took pole but slid off on the first corner. With Rajamaki and Tony Worswick fighting for the lead, Scottish driver Ron Cummings (who had difficulties in qualifying) scythed his way though the field to catch and pass the leaders in his Judd V10 powered Footwork and take the chequered flag. Greensall eventually fought back to 4th place, claiming a new Mondello Park lap record in the process. Next week’s upload will see more Circuit of Ireland highlights, this time from 2002 when Andrew Nesbitt was the peak of his powers.
