​This week’s RIAC - Motorsport Ireland classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1997 Galway International Rally.
Having persisted with an ageing ST-165 Toyota Celica since 1992 and having not won an Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title since 1986, Austin McHale rolled the dice in 1997 by moving up to an ST-185 example. McHale managed to take a debut win in the car but only after early leader Andrew Nesbitt crashed out in dramatic fashion.
