This week’s RIAC-Motorsport Ireland classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from three rounds of the 2001 Formula Ford, Ford of Ireland Zetec Championship. With closed road motorsport grinding to a halt in 2001 thanks to the foot and mouth disease outbreak, track racing thrived with the Formula Ford series providing extremely close, single seater action as different chassis’ such as Van Diemen, Mygale and Swift equipped with identical engines fought it out in a field of drivers that blended youth and experience. George McAlpin eventually triumphed but the season also featured starring roles from Ray Moore, Charlie Donnelly, Michael Devaney, Alan Ring and Alan Dwyer. Commentary comes from Alan Tyndall, Brian Tuite and Declan Quigley. This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on January 28th. Next week’s upload will feature action from 50 years ago from the first international rally to run in the Republic of Ireland, the 1971 Galway International Rally Remember to subscribe to the Motorsport Ireland–RIAC YouTube Channel to be notified of our latest video uploads.
