This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC Classic Video upload is the Tyndall Productions coverage of the 1990 Phoenix Park Races, which was originally aired on Sports Stadium. The show focuses on the Group N Saloons and the Formula Ford races from that year’s meeting, with a special focus on local driver Derek Walsh in his VW Golf GTI in the Group N Saloons, and Co. Cork’s Tommy Burke in the Formula Fords. Both races produced real drama in scorching conditions on one of the fastest ever layouts of the iconic track. John Burns wins the Saloons race, while in the Formula Fords, a young Morgan Dempsey takes his maiden win in the park. This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on Thursday, August 6th: Next week’s video will feature coverage from the 1980 Cork 20 International Rally. This event saw Jimmy McRae add to his tally of three international wins that year in his Vauxhall Chevette HSR, a car which would come to dominate Irish rallying in the coming years.
